GENERAL · BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PLANS

Creating and updating a Behavior Intervention Plan

From assessment evidence to individualized intervention, generalization, and continuity of care

About this course

Learn to create and update an individualized Behavior Intervention Plan by connecting client background, caregiver consent, reassessment records, and functional assessment evidence to clear clinical decisions. Explore complementary assessment methods, measurable maladaptive behavior targets, function-matched replacement behaviors, and skill acquisition programs. Apply practical strategies for justifying home and school services, planning generalization and maintenance, and defining individualized fading and discharge criteria.

This course uses fictional cases and applied decisions to connect assessment findings to a complete, measurable plan. Practice distinguishing a working hypothesis about behavioral function from a demonstrated functional relationship, evaluating conflicting evidence, and planning safe next steps when information is incomplete.

Explore a recommended approach using three or more complementary assessment methods selected for the clinical question. This is a course recommendation rather than a universal BACB or insurer requirement. Example mastery, fading, and discharge criteria must be individualized.

What you will learn

  • Organize client background, verify caregiver consent, and document records actually reviewed, including available IEP or EIP documents, CDE reports, referrals, letters of medical necessity, and caregiver interviews.
  • Evaluate behavioral function using a recommended approach of three or more complementary assessment methods; distinguish supported hypotheses from demonstrated functional relationships.
  • Define maladaptive behaviors, select function-matched replacement behaviors, and develop measurable skill acquisition programs.
  • Justify services in home and school settings using individualized needs and plan generalization, maintenance, and implementation fidelity measures.
  • Establish measurable criteria for fading and discharge, with rules for holding or reversing reductions and responding to relapse.

Course outline

  1. Client background, consent, and reassessment records: 20 minutes
  2. Integrating functional assessment evidence at reassessment: 30 minutes
  3. Behavior definitions, replacement skills, and teaching programs: 20 minutes
  4. Setting rationale, generalization, and maintenance: 15 minutes
  5. Fading, discharge, and continuity decisions: 15 minutes

100 minutes of instruction, plus approximately 10 minutes of case consolidation and 10 minutes for the final assessment.

Complete all five modules and their 25 multiple-choice practice questions, answer the eight consolidation questions across four fictional cases, and pass the 15-question final assessment with at least 12 correct answers (80%). Answer or decline each of the five ungraded course-evaluation questions, then confirm your legal name and BACB certification number to generate your PDF diploma bearing Dalgis’s signature.
