SUPERVISION · BCBA FIELDWORK

Supervising aspiring behavior analysts: from fieldwork to clinical reasoning

Supervisión de aspirantes a BCBA: del fieldwork al razonamiento clínico

About this course

Supervising fieldwork requires experiences that develop clinical judgment and records that describe what actually occurred. This course teaches supervisors to connect eligible hours, observations, and work products with demonstrated competencies. The goal is to prepare professionals who can explain a decision, recognize insufficient information, and revise recommendations without compromising client welfare.

Explore applicable 2026 and 2027 fieldwork requirements, restricted and unrestricted activities, individual and group supervision, client observation, and documentation. Ten educational tracking tables include completed examples and downloadable CSV files. Practice clinical reasoning, competency-based feedback, ethical decision-making, and readiness assessment through eight modules and five fictional consolidation cases.

What you will learn

  • Verify supervisor and trainee requirements before starting the fieldwork relationship.
  • Distinguish requirements applicable in 2026 and to 2027 applications and plan a documented transition.
  • Classify restricted and unrestricted activities without conflating independent and supervised hours.
  • Calculate percentages, contacts, client observation, and cumulative totals using reconciled records.
  • Design unrestricted activities that produce analysis and decisions relevant to real clients.
  • Teach integration of data, scientific evidence, preferences, and limitations when justifying clinical decisions.
  • Use observation, behavioral skills training, and feedback to assess competencies and supervisor supports.
  • Protect consent, confidentiality, equity, and competence boundaries during training.
  • Adjust supports and assess generalization without equating completed hours with readiness to practice.
