RBT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT · COURSE 14

Parents Ask Me Questions: What Can I Say?

Professional Communication, Ethics, and Boundaries
Los padres me hacen preguntas: ¿qué puedo decir?
Comunicación profesional, ética y límites

Three communication bubbles, a notepad of observed facts, and a lock depict listening, sharing authorized information, and referring clinical decisions while protecting confidentiality.

About this course

RBTs often interact with caregivers who have questions about treatment, progress, schedules, and the learner’s needs. This course helps RBTs communicate respectfully, share information within their role and authorization, protect confidentiality, and refer clinical decisions to the supervisor.

Learn through bilingual explanations, illustrations, fictional cases, and multiple-choice activities. These selected-response activities assess knowledge and case judgment; they do not demonstrate observed clinical implementation, authored-document skill, or crisis-response competence.

What you will learn

  • Distinguish questions answerable with authorized session observations from questions requiring supervisory guidance.
  • Select empathetic, role-appropriate responses to at least three common caregiver concerns.
  • Select referrals to the supervisor for diagnosis, treatment-change, and clinical-progress questions.
  • Select a timely handoff that preserves the caregiver’s meaning and relevant details without omissions or embellishment.
  • Identify multiple-relationship and professional-boundary concerns in fictional caregiver interactions.
  • Select confidentiality-protective responses based on the recipient’s authorization and the setting.
  • Select active-listening responses that check understanding and respect language, culture, and communication preferences.
  • Select an objective supervisor message containing the caregiver’s question, relevant observed facts, and the action needed.
