GENERAL · CLIENT PROGRESS AND CLINICAL DECISIONS

What to do when a client stops making progress

Qué hacer cuando el cliente deja de progresar

About this course

When a client’s progress slows or stops, a useful review starts with a clear question. This course explores how to distinguish a plateau, regression, variability, and difficulty with generalization while keeping meaningful benefits for the client at the center of decisions.

Through the fictional cases of Mateo and Lucía, examine measurement quality, opportunity counts, missing data, trends, and implementation by component. Use tables and a descriptive graph to identify what the available data support and what still needs investigation.

Practice deciding when to maintain, modify, or replace an intervention, document a reviewable plan, and evaluate subsequent outcomes. The course also addresses sudden regression, coordination with other professionals, client and family participation, generalization, and maintenance. Case timelines and percentages are educational examples; clinical decisions remain individualized.

What you will learn

  • Define a progress concern using observable, individually meaningful outcomes.
  • Check measurement definitions, denominators, missing data, and opportunities.
  • Interpret level, trend, and variability without assuming an unproven cause.
  • Review implementation fidelity and barriers to learning and participation.
  • Choose whether to maintain, modify, or replace an intervention using a documented evaluation plan.
  • Coordinate appropriately during sudden regression and evaluate generalization and maintenance.

Course outline

  1. Define the problem and meaningful progress: 10 minutes
  2. Check measurement quality: 15 minutes
  3. Interpret level, trend, and variability: 15 minutes
  4. Review implementation and service conditions: 15 minutes
  5. Learning barriers and individualized goals: 15 minutes
  6. Maintain, modify, or replace an intervention: 10 minutes
  7. Sudden regression and coordination with other professionals: 10 minutes
  8. Reevaluation, generalization, and maintenance: 10 minutes

100 planned instructional and application minutes, including module decisions and the integrated case; approximately 15 additional minutes for the final assessment.

Complete eight modules with both multiple-choice decisions correct in each (16 checks), answer all four integrated-case decisions correctly, and pass the ten-question final assessment with at least eight correct answers (80%). Answer or decline each ungraded course-evaluation question, then confirm your legal name and BACB certification number to generate your PDF diploma bearing Dalgis’s signature.
