SUPERVISION · PERFORMANCE BARRIERS

When the supervisee does not implement the plan correctly

Assessing barriers and improving implementation

About this course

When a supervisee implements a plan incorrectly, the next step is to define what happened and investigate the conditions affecting performance. This course helps BCBAs and BCaBAs assess skill gaps, unclear expectations, inaccessible resources, and competing demands using interviews, direct observation, permanent products, and PDC-HS domains.

Practice selecting supports that match the available evidence, including behavioral skills training (BST), task clarification, resource changes, and feedback. Learn to monitor supervisor support fidelity and supervisee performance, interpret relevant client outcomes, and plan generalization and maintenance with individualized follow-up decisions. Five modules combine reading, examples, and multiple-choice practice, followed by four fictional consolidation cases and a final assessment.

What you will learn

  • Define observable implementation errors and distinguish independent performance, supported performance, and unobserved opportunities.
  • Combine interviews, direct observation, and permanent products to assess performance barriers using PDC-HS domains while recognizing the limits of indirect assessment.
  • Select BST, task clarification, resource changes, or consequence supports that match the available evidence.
  • Monitor supervisor support fidelity and supervisee performance, and plan generalization and maintenance using individualized criteria.

Course outline

  1. Define implementation errors: 20 minutes
  2. Assess performance barriers: 20 minutes
  3. Select supports that match the barrier: 20 minutes
  4. Monitor fidelity and results: 20 minutes
  5. Plan generalization and maintenance: 20 minutes

100 minutes of instruction, plus approximately 20 minutes of case consolidation and 20 minutes for the final assessment. Estimated total: 140 minutes.

Complete all five modules and their 25 multiple-choice practice questions, answer the eight consolidation questions across four fictional cases, and pass the 15-question final assessment with at least 12 correct answers (80%). Answer or decline each of the five ungraded course-evaluation questions, then confirm your legal name and BACB certification number to generate your PDF diploma bearing Dalgis’s signature.
