RBT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT · COURSE 13

Am I Helping Too Much?

Prompts, Fading, and Learner Independence
¿Estoy ayudando demasiado?
Ayudas, desvanecimiento y autonomía del participante

A written cue, a timer, and progressively lighter support markers lead toward a response card, symbolizing individualized prompt fading rather than a fixed hierarchy.

About this course

Prompts can help learners respond successfully, but the timing, type, and fading procedure must follow the individualized program. This course helps RBTs recognize common prompts, allow appropriate response opportunities, record the level of assistance, and seek feedback when a learner may be relying on prompts.

Learn through bilingual explanations, illustrations, fictional cases, and multiple-choice activities. These selected-response activities assess knowledge and case judgment; they do not demonstrate observed clinical implementation, authored-document skill, or crisis-response competence.

What you will learn

  • Identify stimulus and response prompts in practical teaching cases.
  • Select explanations connecting prescribed prompt fading to independent responding.
  • Given a written prompt procedure, select the correct instruction, waiting interval, prompt, and next action.
  • Classify independent, prompted, and incorrect responses using a fictional recording system.
  • Identify at least four prompting errors, including premature help and deviation from the prescribed fading procedure.
  • Recognize unintended cues from repeated instructions and select a factual report to the supervisor.
  • Select the RBT action that implements prescribed generalization across people, materials, and settings.
  • Select a request for supervisory feedback and the plan-consistent action after that feedback without independently changing the hierarchy.

Assessment and completion: Complete all seven modules and their multiple-choice activities, pass the 20-question final assessment with at least 16 correct answers (80%), and confirm your learner information. Submit the course evaluation as directed. Final assessment time is separate from the 100 planned instructional minutes.

Completion documentation: After all course requirements are met and your learner information is confirmed, Bhavioral Academy automatically generates your completed official BACB PDU form (constancia) with the coordinator’s authorized signature, ready for immediate download. Taking both language versions does not provide duplicate credit.

Professional scope: Designed for RBTs with foundational behavior-analytic training who work under supervision. Follow the individualized plan and your supervisor’s instructions. This course does not replace required supervision, safety training, or direct observation of implementation.
