FCT in Real Life: Teaching Functional Communication During ABA Sessions

Explore everyday opportunities for functional requests for help, a break, attention, or items. Use supplied FCT protocols to select prescribed prompting and reinforcement responses, distinguish spontaneous from prompted communication, and identify implementation barriers to report to the BCBA.

This bilingual, asynchronous course uses multiple-choice knowledge checks and fictional case decisions. It supports knowledge and case-based application within the RBT role; it does not assess observed hands-on implementation or certify independent clinical competence.

• Select the prompting and reinforcement responses specified in a supplied FCT protocol for simulated scenarios.
• Differentiate spontaneous and prompted responses during data collection.
• Recognize when to report implementation difficulties or patterns requiring protocol review to the BCBA.

5. Identify implementation barriers and relevant supervisor reports.

Assessment and completion: Complete the instructional activities, multiple-choice knowledge checks, case-based decisions, and final multiple-choice assessment, then submit the course evaluation as directed. Final assessment time is separate from the 100 planned instructional minutes.
